Vision and Values
Stand firm. Show kindness. Seek excellence. Ubi Caritas
Our Mission
At English Martyrs’ RC Primary School, rooted in the teachings of scripture and inspired by Christ’s love, we strive to create a nurturing and inclusive community where every child is recognised as a unique gift from God. We work in close partnership with parents, acknowledging them as the first educators of their children, to support each child’s spiritual, moral, and academic development. We foster a welcoming and safe environment where children are encouraged to grow in faith, show kindness, and develop respect for others, while embracing the richness of diverse cultures within our school community. Guided by our shared values and our motto, we aim to help our pupils become confident, caring individuals who live with integrity and bring light to the world.
Stand firm. Show kindness. Seek excellence. Ubi Caritas
Inspired by the words Ubi Caritas — “Where charity and love are found, God is there” — we seek to live out our faith through love, service and compassion in all that we do.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be a loving Catholic community where every child is recognised as a unique gift from God and grows in faith, learning and character. We aspire to nurture confident, respectful and compassionate individuals who stand firm in their values, show kindness and seek excellence. Through prayer, worship, service and strong partnerships with families and parish, we guide our pupils to live with integrity and make a positive contribution to the world.
Our Motto
Stand firm. Show kindness. Seek excellence. Ubi Caritas.
- Stand firm – rooted in faith and courage
- Show kindness – guided by love and respect
- Seek excellence – striving to give our best in all we do
Our School Values
At English Martyrs’, our six core values guide all aspects of school life:
- Perseverance
- Courage
- Honesty
- Sharing
- Respect
- Kindness
These values were chosen by our pupils and reflect what is important to them. They are embedded throughout the curriculum, collective worship and daily school life.
Pupils who demonstrate these values are recognised and celebrated through assemblies and displays, helping to build a strong sense of community and shared identity.
What This Means in Practice
Our mission and values are not just words; they are lived out through our curriculum and everyday experiences.
At English Martyrs’, this means:
- Promoting dignity, respect and inclusion for all
- Encouraging pupils to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership
- Supporting pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
- Helping pupils understand their role in creating a just and caring society
- Preparing pupils for life in modern Britain and the wider world
- Working in partnership with families and the parish community to support pupils in living out Gospel values and serving others
Through our rich, broad and balanced curriculum, we ensure that pupils develop academically while also growing as thoughtful, compassionate and responsible individuals.
Our Commitment
At English Martyrs’, we are committed to developing well-rounded, happy and confident pupils who are prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We aim for our pupils to leave our school as individuals who:
- demonstrate strong values and integrity
- show empathy and respect for others
- have a love of learning
- take pride in their achievements
- are ready to make a positive difference in the world
Preparing Pupils for Life in Modern Britain (Fundamental British Values)
We actively promote:
Democracy
Pupils are encouraged to contribute their ideas and take part in decision-making processes. They vote for School Council representatives and House Captains and are involved in shaping class rules and expectations. This helps them understand the importance of having a voice, making choices and respecting the views of others within a democratic society.Rule of Law
Pupils understand the importance of rules and why they are needed. Through our Behaviour Policy and shared expectations, they learn that actions have consequences and that rules help keep everyone safe and respected. Class and whole-school rewards, including School Value Awards, reinforce positive behaviour. Assemblies also cover themes such as safety awareness and e-safety, helping pupils understand their responsibilities in the wider world.Individual Liberty
Pupils are supported to make choices and express their views in a safe and nurturing environment. They take on roles of responsibility such as Young Leaders, Class Monitors and Friendship Leaders. Through curricular clubs and wider school opportunities, pupils are encouraged to develop independence, confidence and self-belief.Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of our school community. Pupils are taught to value differences, listen to others and build positive relationships based on trust and understanding. This is promoted through daily interactions, sports activities which encourage fairness and teamwork, and the celebration of achievements both inside and outside of school. Visitors, including those from different backgrounds and experiences such as athletes and community figures, further support pupils in understanding respect and equality.Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Through Religious Education, assemblies and wider experiences, pupils learn about different faiths, cultures and traditions. They explore similarities and differences, developing understanding and respect for others. Multi-faith assemblies, visits to places of worship and engagement with visitors from different backgrounds help pupils to appreciate diversity and understand the importance of living together in harmony.
